What is love?

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…..” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)

These verses from Corinthians (apart of the New Testament of the Bible), explains the foundation of love. If anyone asks me what is my definition of love, this is it. These are basically the ways in which we experience love, and therefore the ways in which we can recognize love.

This is a way in which we can measure the love that we give and receive.

There are infinite levels to love. In relationships – whether friendly and romantic – one person’s love is never the same as the other. In my opinion, no one can love each other the exact same way – everyone will experience love differently, and therefore will interpret and show love differently. Moreover, I think that’s the way it was meant to be.

We cannot work for it, we cannot earn it, we cannot be deserving of it….otherwise I feel that is not love….Love is something that must be freely given. A lot of people say love is a choice – and yes I agree. You choose to be patient and kind and trusting and protective and hopeful etc towards yourself and others, regardless of flaws and all – to a certain level. Some people have higher levels than others for the different people in their lives. It’s a special and rare gift, and something to be grateful for :).

Lastly, the more you truly love yourself, the more you are capable of loving others because love radiates…..and the first relationship you have is with yourself.

How have you given and received love today?
