Part 6: Following up after an interview

So you just had your interview…feeling great? A bit shaky? Don’t worry. How you feel after an interview doesn’t necessarily depict the outcome, and it’s very likely that you are just being too hard on yourself. Regardless of how you feel, send a follow up email. This will help to set you apart from the rest.

Phone interview:

  1. Email your interviewer by saying you enjoyed the conversation, list one thing you enjoyed talking about, one thing that you plan to work on, and that you hope to speak with them again soon.
  2. If you’ve forgotten their email, email the person who set up the interview for you, asking them for your interviewers email.

Face to face interview

  1. Reiterate the steps above for everyone who interviewed you. An even BETTER idea is to send handwritten thank you cards to everyone who interviewed you. Yes, everyone. This will truly set you apart and show that you know a thing or two about building relationships, i.e your soft skills are up to par.
