I am done with my first year of graduate school and one more to go!
To those who are thinking about going to graduate school but not really sure if it is the right choice for you. I encourage you to look at schools and apply anyways. You never know who you will meet or what can you gain by being a student again.
This year is a challenging and yet fruitful year for me. There have been so many changes. So many rewarding experiences inside and outside the classrooms. I enjoyed all the classes that I took and am continuing to learn about my profession, my career path and about a different field of work.
This year I took inter-culture communications, international communications, statistics in international affairs, project design, monitoring and evaluation, global perspective on public diplomacy and international negotiations.
The first step to figuring out what you want to do is to take classes and see if you enjoyed them and see if you can go into other fields of work as well.
For example, my international negotiation class has taught me theories behind negotiations and that you should always negotiate because you don’t know what you can get.. Project Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation have taught me that doing work in developing countries is important but also be cynical how a project is designed and what is being measured as impact and success?
I now know what I want to do in my future and imagine what lies ahead for me.
